What it means
Prevent Cross-Site Tracking limits third-party cookies and related data across websites in Safari. Camera, microphone and location permissions govern whether an individual website can use phone capabilities. Turning on tracking prevention does not automatically deny a camera prompt.
A real-world example
A video-call site may need microphone access even while Safari blocks third-party tracking. Conversely, a shopping page can track a signed-in user directly despite having no microphone permission.
What to do
Review both the global tracking option and the separate website permissions. Prefer a narrow, site-specific exception when one trusted site requires a device feature.
The distinction that matters
Fraudulent Website Warning is another separate control. Apple groups these settings in Safari but describes different jobs for each; no single switch certifies that every website visit is private or safe. A site's own account and cookies can still recognize returning users directly.
