'Safe account' transfer versus a bank-initiated account lock

What it means

A scammer may describe an external account as a protective vault and ask the customer to initiate the transfer. That is different from a bank blocking a card, investigating a transaction or freezing an existing account through its own authenticated process.

A real-world example

A caller says a criminal is inside your bank account and tells you to wire the balance to an account they read aloud. The new account belongs to the fraudster, even though the customer pressed Send.

What to do

End the call and ask the bank through its official app or card number what protective action it can take on the existing account. If you transferred money already, request a fraud recall immediately.

The distinction that matters

An ordinary transfer to an account you independently own can be legitimate; the red flag is an unexpected contact directing a new destination under threat. A bank app showing a successful transfer does not prove the recipient was safe. FTC warning about moving money
