What it means
LinkedIn can retain up to four recent resumes for future job applications and may preselect the most recent one. Those saved resumes and answers are not automatically handed to a new employer merely because they exist; submission is the separate action. Once you apply, the job poster receives the application and may store it in their own system. Removing a saved resume later changes future convenience, not the earlier transfer.
A real-world example
A candidate deletes an old resume containing a home address after noticing it in settings. The deletion prevents easy reuse, but a company that received that resume last week may still have it.
What to do
Review Job application settings, remove stale resumes, update saved answers, then inspect every Easy Apply form before submitting. Contact a past employer or platform separately about an already submitted document.
The distinction that matters
A resume attached through an external career portal may be governed by that portal's controls rather than LinkedIn's saved-resume list. Deleting local copies also does not change LinkedIn's server copy. Conversely, a saved file is not proof it was ever submitted. Keep an application log with employer, date and resume version so you can respond accurately if a posting turns out to be fraudulent.
