A Google Account can retain activity that supports features such as recommendations and history. Auto-delete limits how long selected account activity is kept, but changing it can remove records you expected to revisit. Different activity controls and locally stored browser history are separate.
Before you start
Sign in to the correct Google Account and decide whether you need any history for work, records or troubleshooting. Export or record needed items through Google's supported controls before choosing a shorter period.Do it step by step
- Open myactivity.google.com directly and inspect a few entries to confirm you are looking at the right account.
- Under My Google Activity, select the particular Activity control, such as Web & App Activity. Do not assume the setting covers YouTube History or Timeline too.
- Select Auto-delete, review the available retention choices and choose the period that fits your privacy and utility needs.
- Read the confirmation, including any activity that will be deleted immediately, then select Next and Confirm only if that is intended.
- Reopen the control to verify the saved choice. Review other account activity categories separately and, if desired, use manual deletion for specific items.
