Tighten Firefox tracking protection without breaking a site

Firefox's Standard Enhanced Tracking Protection is already on. Strict can block more cross-site tracking, but some pages may fail to load a payment step, video or sign-in widget. Changing privacy settings works best as a reversible test, not a blanket assumption that every failure is an attack.

Change one thing at a time​

1. In Firefox, open Settings → Privacy & Security and find Enhanced Tracking Protection. Note whether Standard, Strict or Custom is selected before you change it.
2. Try Strict, then test sites you rely on: sign in, checkout, embedded media and any work portal. If a page breaks, reload once and check whether Firefox shows blocked items for that site.
3. Use a site-specific protection exception only after you have confirmed the website's address and that the issue is caused by protection. Re-enable protection for that site after the task if it works without the exception.
4. If several legitimate sites break, return to Standard or adjust the relevant compatibility option rather than leaving broad exceptions everywhere.

Know what you gain​

Tracking protection reduces known cross-site trackers; it does not make you anonymous or replace phishing checks. A payment form failing in Strict mode does not mean the merchant is malicious, and a form working in Standard mode does not prove it is safe. Check the address independently before entering payment information. Mozilla documents Standard and Strict modes and compatibility exceptions. A site that demands a browser extension or a download to fix a broken login deserves a separate safety check.
