What it means
A trusted device is one TikTok recognizes after a successful login, so it may not ask for the same verification on every visit. Two-step verification adds a challenge when a new or unfamiliar device tries to access the account. If someone keeps an old trusted phone, merely enabling 2SV does not make that phone disappear. TikTok's Security checkup shows both trusted-device management and 2SV among its separate tasks.
A real-world example
A person gives away a tablet without signing out. Their new phone has 2SV enabled, but the old tablet may still hold an authorized session or remembered status. The account's green 2SV check is not evidence the tablet was removed.
What to do
Open Security and permissions, Manage devices, remove the retired tablet, then change the password if anyone may know it. Check the linked email and phone and test a new login challenge. If the account sent unwanted messages, inspect recent activity as well.
The distinction that matters
Deleting a trusted-device entry is not the same as wiping the physical device or undoing messages already sent. 2SV protects the next unfamiliar login, but a compromised recovery mailbox can still create trouble. Keep more than one usable recovery route and review it when you change phones.
