Hide My Email creates random addresses that forward messages to your personal inbox, reducing how widely your real address is shared. The feature is available with iCloud+. It can help trace who shared an address and stop unwanted mail, but disabling a relay used for an important account can also prevent password resets and purchase receipts. Treat each relay as part of that account's recovery path, not a disposable alias.
Before you start
Confirm your iCloud+ access and the Apple Account signed in on the device. Choose a low-stakes signup for the first test. Check the forwarding inbox and make sure it is protected with strong sign-in; hiding the public address does not protect a weak destination mailbox.Do it step by step
- In iPhone Settings select your Apple Account, then iCloud and Hide My Email. Create New Address and give it a label that identifies the exact service, such as a shop or newsletter. Avoid putting sensitive credentials in the label.
- Copy the generated address into the verified service's signup or account email field. Finish any confirmation email and check that the message reaches the intended forwarding inbox.
- Store the relay address in your password manager beside the service login. If you later need account recovery, you must know which relay address that service recognizes.
- Review the Forward To setting and make sure the selected real address remains accessible. Changing your real inbox without reviewing relays can strand account recovery mail.
- When a service becomes unwanted, sign in to it and close or change the account if appropriate. Only then consider deactivating the relay. Apple says a deactivated address stops forwarding; it does not delete the third party's records.
- If you deactivate an address accidentally, use Apple's management screen to find the inactive address and restore it if available. Test a legitimate message after reactivation instead of assuming forwarding resumed immediately.
