What it means
A YouTube channel is managed through one or more Google Accounts. A channel takeover means unauthorized control of its videos, settings or permissions. A compromised Google Account is the identity-level incident often enabling that takeover; it may expose email and other Google services too. YouTube instructs creators to recover the associated Google Account before cleaning channel changes.
A real-world example
A creator changes a video title back after an intruder edits it, but the intruder still holds an active Google session. The title changes again. Channel cleanup failed because the underlying account access was not contained.
What to do
Start with Google's account recovery, security activity, devices and credentials. Scan suspect administrator devices, then inspect Studio's cleanup tool, uploads, branding, channel permissions and monetization links. Preserve evidence before removing fraudulent content.
The distinction that matters
A changed channel banner alone does not prove the owner account's password was stolen; an invited manager or session could be responsible. Yet treating it as merely a cosmetic change is unsafe. Investigate both account and channel permission paths and verify each separately. Also check active streams, descriptions, external links and monetization relationships, because a scammer may use those surfaces to reach viewers even after the public banner is restored.
