What it means
The Held tab in YouTube Studio collects comments retained for creator review, including likely spam. A published comment is visible on the video under its current settings. A creator can approve, remove or report held content. YouTube notes that reported spam comments may also appear in the Held area, so the queue is not proof every item was seen by the public.
A real-world example
A bot submits a fake prize link. YouTube holds it as likely spam. The creator posts an alarm saying every viewer saw the link, although the comment was never public. The useful action is to remove and report the bot, then check the published thread for other copies.
What to do
Review both Published and Held in Studio. Approve legitimate questions mistakenly filtered, remove clear spam and use accurate reports for abuse. Test a video's public comment view before estimating how many viewers could have seen a scam.
The distinction that matters
Held is a moderation state, not a safety certificate or a permanent archive. A legitimate comment can be misclassified, and a malicious reply can reach Published. Hiding a repeat offender from your channel is a separate control; it does not automatically resolve every comment already copied elsewhere.
