What it means
Hide user from channel is a creator control that keeps a particular account's comments from appearing publicly on that channel. Reporting spam asks YouTube to evaluate specific content under its policies. You can use both for a repeat scammer, but neither action automatically performs the other or guarantees that a new account will be blocked.
A real-world example
A lookalike giveaway account replies to dozens of viewers. The creator hides that account, which protects the channel conversation, and reports representative scam comments. Only reporting may leave visible replies while review is pending; only hiding may leave the broader pattern unreported.
What to do
Preserve a sample URL or screenshot, report the violating comment or account accurately, then hide the repeat offender. Review the Held and Published tabs for copies. Publish a short verification warning from the real channel if the scam has already spread.
The distinction that matters
Hiding is not the same as deleting a YouTube channel or proving criminal fraud. Reporting does not promise removal or compensation. A creator should not use spam tools against good-faith criticism merely because it is negative; choose controls based on deceptive behavior. Check whether the offending account also changed its handle or avatar to imitate the creator, and report that impersonation separately where appropriate.
