What it means
A Zoom invitation link may contain a meeting ID and sometimes an embedded passcode. It normally leads to the Zoom launch page, which can open the installed application or offer a supported browser join if the host permits one. An actual Update Required notice can appear when a Zoom client is below the required version. A file attached to the invitation or served by a lookalike website is not validated by either of those facts.
A real-world example
A message says a scheduled call needs a new video codec. The link opens a page that looks like Zoom but downloads an executable from an unrelated domain. The organizer's real meeting ID can be entered into the already installed Zoom app instead.
What to do
Verify the organizer separately, inspect the full link, join through the official app or Zoom web route, and update only through the app, official download center, app store or managed IT channel. Reject browser extensions offered as a prerequisite by an unknown page.
The distinction that matters
A genuine Zoom launch prompt does not certify the person who invited you, and a real meeting may still contain an impersonator. Likewise, a real update can be needed but should not be obtained from an arbitrary invitation attachment. Browser joining can have fewer features and may be disabled by the host. If the meeting cannot be joined safely, contact the host through a known channel instead of bypassing device protections under time pressure.
