Troubleshoot 22topvideos.com from Chrome

I just upgraded from a Samsung S7 to a S20 5G. I used chrome to visit a streaming site I used all the time on my S7 (not porn I promise lol). The streaming site always had annoying pop ups, but once you close them a few times, you watch your show in peace and my S7 was always fine.

Now yesterday I used it on my S20 for the first time and I keep getting Chrome notifications from this website called 83.22topvideos.com saying "device infected, download this anti virus" or other scammy messages.

Everything I've found online for Malware says remove the infected app, but I can't remove Chrome. So I'm stumped...

Your phone is not infected with malware. You've just stumbled upon a malicious advertisement that uses the Chrome notifications system to push unwanted ads on your device.

To remove the 22topvideos.com permission to send you push notifications, follow the below steps:

1. On your Android phone, open Google Chrome
2. In the top right corner, tap “More” (three vertical dots), then click on “Settings”.
   
   
3. Chrome’s “Settings” menu should now be displayed, scroll down to the “Advanced” section, and tap on “Site Settings“.
   
   
4. In the “Site Settings” menu, tap on “Notifications“.
   
   
5. The “Notifications” options will open and you will be presented with a list of sites that you have “Blocked” and “Allowed” to send you notifications. In the “Allowed” section, scroll through the list until you find the 22topvideos.com site, then tap on it, then click the “Clean & Reset” button that appears on the bottom of the window.
   
   
6. A confirmation dialog should now be displayed, detailing the actions that will be taken should you continue on with the reset process. To complete the clean-up process, click on the “Clean & Reset” button.

Thanks for the quick reply! I just tried this so I'll wait to see if I get any pop ups.
Also I wanted to make sure I wasn't just fixing the symptoms (aka pop ups) without fixing/removing the actual problem.

Going forward, how do you suggest I visit streaming sites (I was using Xmovies8 and MoviesJoy) without running into major problems?
Should I download an antivirus for my phone? I was thinking of Norton because I bought a 10 device download a few weeks ago.

Usually if you browse those streaming sites with an ad blocker, you won't run into those pesky popups.

I would either:

1. Use a different browser that supports ad blocking on Android. Chrome unfortunately doesn't support this.

Your S20 should have come with Samsung Internet Browser that allows you to add ad blocking extensions. Firefox for Android is another browser that allows you to install extensions.

Firefox for Android: Settings menu > Add-ons > Install the ad blocker extension of your choice.

OR

2. Use Android's Private DNS function in System settings and add the AdGuard DNS to block ads. This option would allow you to use Chrome since Private DNS is system wide.



Note 1: One downside for this option is that you don't get to decide what AdGuard filters out. It's all or nothing and is system wide.

Note 2: Sometimes AdGuard's DNS goes down and causes your internet to not connect. You can temporarily turn it off and you'll be able to connect to the internet again (with no ad blocking) until AdGuard gets their DNS back up. This has only happened twice in the 1 year that I've been using it so far so it's a minor inconvenience.
