"Windows Repair (all in one)" probably fixed numerous other problems I was not even aware of. Chkdisk deleted one wrong index entry, and SFC hung up on 13 different files. Since I do not have the win xp disks I cancelled through each one and I suppose "Windows Repair (all in one)" fixed those files because all seems well at this time...
