360 Total Security Review

Product name
360 Total Security 5.0.0.1996
Pros
  • Simple UI
    Outstanding detection rate
Speedup and Cleanup features work well
    Very light on system resources
    Very useful USB Drive Protection
    Fast scan times
    Good Sandbox
Quick replies from 360 support team to any feedback
    No browsing slowdown
Patch Up feature just saves a lot of hassle
Gets better and better and more stable with each new version
CONS
Currently Internet Protection doesn't support Opera
Compressed file scan not so powerful
Detects system32 files
Big RAM usage with all engines enabled
Speedup and Cleanup features not really necessary
Low offline protection with BD and Avira engines disabled
Proactive Defense needs some more work
No auto-sandbox
No auto-update (manual update from 360safe.com)
Ugly UI
BOTTOM LINE
There's definitely some room for improvement, but for me it's the best free antivirus solution out there

I know 360 TS has been reviewed again in the past, but I would also like to give my opinion on this product. I've used it since version 4 which was a little bit unstable, but version 5 as I said gets better and better.
Thanks for reading!

Thank you for your posting, I think the same... :D

It detects system32 files for me also, so I uninstalled it.
After some emails with 360 support team and my observations, I've come to the following conclusion: TS had detected a system32 file as an 'Application that should forbid to auto-run when Windows starts'. Clicking the Resolve button will FORBID it to AUTO-RUN. It doesn't DELETE the file. It's still there in the system32 folder. At least, that's what happened with me.

Edit: So I've changed my comment on The Bad.

Have used TS for quite some time after moving up from IS, so far it's not bad but I think there are a lot of unnecessary features that they could remove and make it a cleaner interface. I still very much prefer IS over TS. So far I have not encountered any false positives, I like the good detection ratio but I don't quite like that their heuristics require the internet as well, it should be built into the product itself. It's basically a dummy against zero day when there's no internet.

Avira and Bitdefender engines are alright but not fantastic because the engines only cover their virus definitions and not heuristics. I still find that TS is very lacking of some other AVs out there and relies to much on the cloud to detect rather than giving more virus definitions to use offline.

Also one thing I really really hate about it is that they only give updates to their various engines twice a day. This of course only applies to the Bitdefender and Avira engines only because as I have said their other engines run off the cloud and only can detect threats when connected to the internet.

Honestly I really miss Avast on my system, it was really easy to use and the protection was also consistent unlike TS where some times it will decide to detect the file and other times it decides not to. Also Avast was really great at giving update throughout the day.

Hello
the Total Security 360, ever tried, has too many false positives and a high consumption of 130 mega memory.Personally I do not recommend it, there are much better free solutions than this, as COMODO INTERNET security VERSION 7 and BITTDEFENDER with their own engines.
see you soon.

Is it me or the real-time protection is not working in TS ? I still recommend IS over TS (FP are still an issue....)

I agree the real time protection is kinda sluggish compared to IS

Does your detect the malware immediately after you unzip it or do you have to open the folder containing the malware before it detects it?

Hmmm okay this is weird, because it doesn't for me until I go into the folder where the malware is being stored, then this box pops up. What mode is yours set to? Mine is security

Oh no you're right it is the settings for that "fix now" option but I am still getting sluggish detections, have to open up the file containing the malware before it detects it. I don't know what's up with that.
