Heimdal is a great addition to any system and has a completely different function than other security products. It does many things, but in my view the most important is the local encrypted DNS client that does DNS validation of all system activity for malicious domains. It does this by creating a 127 loopback on your IPv settings, looping DNS back to the encrypted Heimdal DNS Client which checks the IPTables, then forwards to your normal DNS. All under 0.05ms time frame but a very powerful feature. That's in addition to the other things it does including heuristic traffic scanning, etc.
