A Novice Configuration

All this advice above sounds good, upgrading is a must.. What ever you choose for security, make sure that you include in your arsenal, a couple forms of back up.. This would be your best bet, especially with teenagers ;) Recovery disks, backing up important files regularly to flash drive/portable HHD, ect.. Then when all else fails "and usually does with teenagers" you are covered..
 
Thanks, I know all too well the gift of back up :( my son clicks on anything, it is so frustrating. They have so many gadgets too, it's impossible to keep them clean....

just for an update: The trustsport was a nightmare to uninstall, it would not go. I had to do a restore eventually. Just about to install avast again, hope it doesn't keep crashing chrome...

Have you tried using 360 internet security? http://www.360safe.com/internet-security.html
It's probably the best free anti-virus available, so use it if you trust it. (or stick with avast! if you dont)
