during the clean process after a few seconds a box opens with the message "***caught unhandled unknown exception; terminating" ran malware bytes and defender "no Issues"

Yes, exactly the same here on Windows 7 Home premium . Malwarebytes & Kaspersky side by side (and getting along very well !) + HitmanPro.Alert, Ccleaner & VPN express ...

NB : After running Adwcleaner and killing it in jobtasks I couldn't run VPNexpress - had to reboot !
