Serious Discussion AI-Powered Malware Bypasses Microsoft Defender—Is Your Antivirus Still Safe?

Do You Still Trust Microsoft Defender Against AI-Made Malware?

  • Yes – Defender is still strong enough (8% bypass isn’t the end of the world).

  • No – This proves Defender alone isn’t enough anymore.

  • Maybe – Defender is fine for now, but I’ll add extra layers (sandbox, DNS filtering, backups).

  • I never trusted Defender – I always use a third-party AV/security suite.

  • AI vs AI is the future – only AI-driven security can stop AI-driven malware.

It probably was. You cannot bypass Defender any other way. Defender is way more integrated in the OS than any other 3rd party antivirus software could ever be because Microsoft controls entire code of both.

Tamper Protection is fully functional only for devices managed by Intune only or by Configuration Manager only.
So, if AI was trained in another environment, Tamper Protection could be enabled, and it would not protect Microsoft Defender's exclusions:

What happens when tamper protection is turned on?

When tamper protection is turned on, these tamper-protected settings can't be changed:

  • Virus and threat protection remains enabled.
  • Real-time protection remains turned on.
  • Behavior monitoring remains turned on.
  • Antivirus protection, including IOfficeAntivirus (IOAV) remains enabled.
  • Cloud protection remains enabled.
  • Security intelligence updates occur.
  • Automatic actions are taken on detected threats.
  • Notifications are visible in the Windows Security app on Windows devices.
  • Archived files are scanned.
  • Exclusions can't be modified or added (Applies to devices managed by Intune only or by Configuration Manager only. Co-Managed devices aren't supported)

It does seem to me that Ai in general will be a most helpful & the biggest mistake mankind has ever made, though the jury is out at this point? Though I've already made my mind up. We are now getting idiots who can't make a simple decision without consulting their phone for an opinion, young adults are almost unable to compose a good letter that often carries more weight than other means without Ai doing it for them - We should now have the brightest & most knowledgeable people in the history of the universe as all human knowledge is contained in something that fits in your pocket, are they the smartest? Not by a long, long way.

The impact of AI hinges on user intent, is it a shortcut for answers or a tool for learning? Gemini's 'Guided Learning' feature is designed for true learning. It's an interactive mode that acts as a personal tutor, actively engaging users to build deeper understanding, moving beyond simple answer generation. The process of indexing with this tool is designed to reinforce the user's knowledge of the subject.

Humanity survived the plague epidemics of the Middle Ages. It will also survive the AI of the modern era. We are like cockroaches. Some of us always survive. ;)

I have 10 grandchildren ranging from 19 to six months old mostly older, I'm not seeing Ai to be used for learning rather as a quick fix for problems - Others experiences may differ?

I suspect the intelligent & resourceful survived, a long term internet outage although difficult would be helpful to the masses at least here.
