We recommend that you use an antimalware app to help protect your PC from malware and other potentially harmful software, and that you keep the app up to date. Windows Defender is a feature of Windows 8 and is enabled by default in Windows 8 Consumer Preview. If you prefer to use any of the antimalware apps listed on this page, Windows Defender will silently turn itself off so that the antimalware app you choose can help protect your PC.

Microsoft is actively working with antimalware app developers, including those listed on this page, to ensure the availability of high-quality antimalware apps on Windows 8.

The companies listed below provide prerelease antimalware apps that they have developed to work with Windows 8 Consumer Preview. To find a business-oriented antimalware app that is compatible with Windows 8 Consumer Preview, visit the Windows 8 Consumer Preview Compatibility Center or contact your antimalware app developer of choice.

  • BullGuard (3 months)
  • F-Secure
  • Kaspersky
  • McAfee
  • Panda
  • Norton
  • Trend Micro

PS: It doesn't look like you can download McAfee, without being on Windows 8 CP. Is it due to the User-Agent Strings of your PC/browser?

PPS: I know there are other Win8-compatible products, but those aren't listed on Microsoft (yet).

As for the Trend Micro one Dad's currently doing the testing for it now and quite pleased with it.

Yeah and users must vote if that application is compatible on Windows 8 Consumer Preview so that anyone can see it and would be safe to install.

Surprised that Avast or other vendors aren't on the list. Always have thought that Trend Micro was a partner of Microsoft.
