Is Antivirus Still Necessary in 2025, or Just Fear-Based Marketing?

  • Absolutely! A good antivirus is essential

  • Only for non-techy people

  • Microsoft Defender is enough

Has anyone tried PIA Antivirus? Does anyone know where this comes from, whether it's PIA's own or purchased from someone else?
They seem to be using their own engine and it seems to combine all available methods like static analysis, dynamic analysis, cloud and so on. Behavioural analysis is also mentioned here and there.

But I wouldn’t expect much.

Putting aside what's possible, let's focus on what's real. How many of us have been infected in the last year, unintentionally? The fact that it's likely a small number, if not zero, is my point about being well-informed. While there are no guarantees in life, you can greatly reduce your risk of a severe car crash by simply wearing your seatbelt and driving with caution.
Bold of you to assume that I have common sense. You should look at my life choices.

I invested in Enron

It's the same as Intego Antivirus and uses Avira's SDK.

These ecosystems are not amazing for users that want to "use stuff".
The "users should be able to use stuff" model is so very deeply flawed and I think it impossible to change. The inclination to solve the user problem now is to use AI to compensate for the hooman, but who knows how that will turn out. I am not confident the results are going to be good.

IT security is just like the climate change or global obesity problems. The hoomans are incapable of doing what is required to solve the problems. What is required to fix the issues is way too expensive, takes way too much effort, and is difficult. Anything that is difficult, requires life style and behavioral changes, society makes no effective efforts to fix.

Honestly I wouldn't touch a VPN AV. It's probably a reskin or rebrand of BitDefender or Avira. Now if it's free with a subscription then there is no harm but if you have to pay extra no I wouldn't.
this am I stumbled across youtuber, Addie Lamarr, supposed security IT person, she sounded credible enough... she was discussing vpn, and said PIA was or is owned by Kape and therefore more than highly suspect fwiw...
