Antiy AVL is a security solution developed by Antiy Labs, a Chinese cybersecurity company specializing in malware detection and threat analysis.
Built on Antiy’s security technologies, it aims to identify and defend against malicious software and emerging cyber threats.

In this review, I explore Antiy AVL’s features, interface, and security capabilities on Windows.

Let's find out!

Interface :

The interface is very simple and colorful, like all Chinese antivirus programs.
Updates are, however, quite slow (expect it to take a good thirty minutes, even though I have fiber-optic internet).

However, I noticed that many of the protection features were disabled by default! I enabled a few of them to push the antivirus to its limits.
The product is very lightweight.

Malware URL : 7/9
1 URL is dead
2 pieces of malware were blocked by the HIPS as soon as they began to act.
2 pieces of malware slipped through undetected
The rest were blocked by the antimalware engine. AVL does not have web filtering.

Fake crack : 1/1
The dropper is not blocked (SFX archive) because it is password-protected.
When executed, AVL blocks all executions. (3 in total)

Malware Pack : 23 out of 84 threats remain
The product responds well, and Behavior does its job, but as soon as you really push it hard, AVL gets overwhelmed.
Several pieces of malware slip through undetected and inject themselves into system processes (such as AppLaunch, CasPol.exe, or MSBuilder.exe).
Also, several alerts aren’t translated and remain in Chinese—which is a shame because I don’t understand what they say, even though the program blocks them.
I was expecting a little better.

Final scan :
AVL: 0
KVRT : 8 (Memory Infected)
Symantec : N/A (Blocked by AVL's Anti-Ransomware module... false positive and impossible to unblock it))

Final opinion:

Antiy AVL is an antivirus program that might be worth considering. The product is easy to use, has a relatively attractive interface, and features a reasonably good virus database.
However, some issues unfortunately cast a shadow over the overall picture—and thus, the rating.
First, even though its HIPS responded well to several attacks, it lets many slip through. The machine is compromised by three active RATs.
Second, many protection features are disabled by default; I enabled a few of them for the test.
And finally, the program and database updates take a very long time. Not to mention the translation issues, where some alerts remain in Chinese even though we're using the English version...
My opinion is very mixed.
