Advice Request Any Kaspersky users receiving these updates?

Hey folks,

So, I went into my Windows Update History and noticed a Definition Updates tab, and when I opened it, it had a load of entries for Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus. It never used to download these definition updates while Kaspersky was active. The only time updates would install with Kaspersky was active was if I had Periodic Scanning on, which I have disabled.

Anyone else getting these?

Do you use Kaspersky or Microsoft Defender?
If you install a third-party antivirus on Windows 10/Windows 11, Microsoft Defender is automatically disabled.

It is possible that an update was downloaded when you used the Microsoft Defender period scan which is useful to scan a computer and get a 2nd opinion in case of infections.

I'm using Trend Micro, I can also see 'Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus' updates everyday by looking at update history, even though I paused the automatic windows updates.
Maybe it's Microsoft forcing to keep the windows defender always updated daily.

I turned Periodic scan on once to do a manual scan, but then I turned it off after. Maybe something happened during that where it thinks it's still on. I did actually un-install and re-install Kaspersky in the hope it would fix it, but no luck.

I am using ESET and have periodic scanning turned off. I am also seeing the WD updates as well just FYI.

If it is happening on other people's computers at least I know it isn't my PC messing up, and probably by some new Microsoft update change.

I am on Kaspersky and same here, Defender automatic updates are part of Windows Update.

Yup Microsoft now updates windows defender without keeping the protection active so you always have a backup incase your third party antivirus fails. In my opinion it’s a good thing.

It's the new norm in freshly installed Windows 11. Defender signature will be automatically updated at least once a day.

Since the release of Windows 11 22H2, Microsoft has changed its policy and started bringing updates to windows defender even though it was disabled by third-party programs.
Also, the Antimalware Service Executable service will continue to work and consume a percentage of the memory dynamically, not statically and in some cases with third-party protection programs the service may consume the processor as well

On my system, I tried to disable this service in all available ways, but it continues to work. The best solution was to prevent it from working from within Kaspersky Application Control
But I felt instability and strange problems in the device after preventing it from working, so I reactivated it

I'm getting the updates from Defender from time to time. I'm using Kaspersky Standard and Windows Defender periodic scan has always been turned off. Win 11

Same behavior here , Service also stopped but still getting WD virus updates

It's not a bad idea that Windows is keeping Defender always updated. If anything happens to whatever you are using such as being disabled by an attack or stops working because it received a bad update, you still have an updated second layer of protection.

Thanks for all your generous input, ladies and gentlemen! If it's the new normal I don't have a problem with it, I was just concerned this was something that solely affected my PC alone.
