What happened to Symantec?
Good question, Symantec appears to be missing from all the latest AV tests.
Maybe they did very bad and didn't want the results published.
Thanks.
Here how Symantec looks compared to the top 3 suite in AV-Test consumer result from Jan-Aug 2012
BitDefender Internet Security
Protection - Real World Testing (0-day) = 99.00
Detection - Reference Set (2-3 Month old Malware) = 99.87 <--- 2nd Best to Panda/GData with a 100% record
Detection - Prevalent malware (Wildlists) = 100.00
PROTECTION = 23.0/24.0
REPAIR = 24.0/24.0
USABILITY = 20.5/24.0
Average slow-down (lower the better) = 14/12/07/10
Kaspersky Internet Security
Protection - Real World Testing (0-day) = 98.37
Detection - Reference Set (2-3 Month old Malware) = 99.37

Average slow-down (lower the better) = 11/12/14/12
F-Secure Internet Security

REPAIR = 18.0/24.0
USA = 22.0/24.0
Average slow-down (lower the better) = 08/09/06/06
Symantec Norton Internet Security
Protection - Real World Testing (0-day) = 99.75 <--- Best 0-Day Protection in AV-Test!
Detection - Reference Set (2-3 Month old Malware) = 98.12 <--- Inconsistent with their detection thought they did excellent in August.
Detection - Prevalent malware (Wildlists) = 100.00
PROTECTION = 22.5/24.0
REPAIR = 17.5/24.0 <--- Slackened in 2012
USABILITY = 20.5/24.0
Average slow-down (lower the better) = 08/08/05/12
I prefer test by AV-TEST because its more proactive. Thought i don't agree with their repair test with pre-infected environment.
Thanks
