Hi all,

Another Friday, another release candidate. We are more than happy to announce AVAST 2014 RC2 (build number 9.0.2004).
Many thanks for all comments you provided us here on the forum and feedback.avast.com from the previous betas! We were so overloaded that please be patient that some of those reports haven't been closed as resolved yet.

We've fixed all known problems in this RC, here is the list of the most important ones:
- taskbar icon > Registration doesn't open GUI
- GUI tuning - that you for your feedback!
- network shield fixes
- WSC - disable MS firewall during AIS installation (but after reboot!)
- SMTP alerts fixes
- several fixes of very unspecified crashes
- mailshield fix for Thunderbird (certificates)
- GUI isn't freezing any more

Known issues:
- IE sometimes crashes when you click the Online Protection plugin icon

It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved).

Also, please try to update through UI (using the in-program updater). If you notice anything unusual related to the installation, networking, please let us know. Network component
(including FW) and setup component have been redesigned, so any negative signs should be checked. Thanks in advance!

AND, IT WOULD BE GREAT TO FOLLOW THE UPDATE SCENARIO FOR RC2 - http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=135712.0 (from version 8 )
WE REALLY APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK FROM THAT!

Any feedback is appreciated! https://feedback.avast.com/response/add

It's a great product but i have to say im a little disappointed Deepscreen is still very inactive with blocking malware. This is rc 2 which means it will be released soon. Not sure why Deepscreen has not shown any improvement. unless they are waiting for the final to flick some kind of switch

Interesting read on wilders.

Regarding DeepScreen: yes, it's still not quite working as expected. The idea behind it is sound, but there's some technical issues that prevent it from being too useful atm.

BTW just to tone the expectations little bit: this is a long-standing project for us - and one that is sort of independent of the product itself and its release cycle (DeepScreen is contained in the defs). Which may mean that you may see A2014 go live with or without a quality DeepScreen, really depending on how everything goes. That is, DeepScreen by itself would likely not drag the release of A2014 because we can update it at any time (and the other stuff in A2014 is still superior to what we have in v8 ).

I hope to see some bigger progress later this week.

Cheers
Vlk

one question just striked in mind, they have 8 Shields in Avast 8 free. But in Avast 9/2014 they have only 2 shields in free version. Do they just removed 6 remaining shields in free version or they just embeded them in 2 Shields??

Wrong........ Everything, is included in the free version except the VPN and the safe browser. They just included more shields into one setting.

I don't like the idea of releasing something that isn't going to work, but on the other hand releasing it part of the free version, assures paying users don't loose out.
