Hi all!

It's finally here! avast! 8 public beta is now ready! The build number is 8.0.1476. A few things to point out:

You'll immediately notice the new GUI. We are excited to hear your feedback
The Software Updater is a new tool for helping you keep apps up to date. Give it a try :)
There is a new product tier called Premier, it includes 3 new features:
• Data Shredder for wiping files, drives, and partitions
• Software Updater in autoupdate mode
• AccessAnywhere for remotely connecting to your PC no matter where you are

There is also a Browser Cleanup tool; it's a standalone utility for getting rid of invasive toolbars. This utility is also
integrated in all avast! editions just to make things simpler.

Other improvements have been made to our FileRep and WebRep to help keep identify new threats in near real-time.
And finally, our Streaming Updates make sure you have the lastes virus definitions.

We hope you will find avast! 8 to be a great product and we sincerely appreciate you taking part in the beta and sharing your feedback with us.

Known issues in this version
- Windows 8 is unsupported by this build (but Windows 8 compatibility is coming soon, of course)
- Except English, there are many translation issues
- Automatic Profile detection in the firewall is broken – does not work on Windows 7
- No information popup on controlled PC when client is connected via avast! AccessAnywhere
- List of computers shows offline PCs and also those that don’t have AccessAnywhere activated
- Self defence dialog appears when reinstalling over older builds
- After facebook registration setup might crash so reboot is required to start avast! service
- During softrial gui is not correctly updated
- Data shredder cannot shred files and partitions (GUI bug)
- There might be stability issues with Outlook plugins
- UI might hang sometimes during connecting to avast! account
- Some online content does not fit or is not translated yet

It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved).

Thanks!

-The AVAST team

Thanks for the posting the latest news!

Unfortunately, I can't say I'm excited about their new changes and no current Windows 8 support.

Let's see if I change my mind after I watch a few video product reviews, when released.

Too bad Windows 8 is not supported by this build.Since Windows 8 is being installed in new PC's and there has been a fair amount of movement to it or at least has been installed as a dual boot on many machines, it would be nice to run it on Windows 8.

Im with Earth I will wait and see some reviews for a release that has Windows 8 support.

I guarantee there will be something that you will have to update, but remember this is a beta not the final release. ;)

I can't wait to try it but it seems that it has a lot of bugs. Maybe I will try it at later beta builds.

Does the firewall include the Outpost Technologies in this version?

Yes mostly they should be retaining the agnitum tech. Silly question here when their v7 can support windows 8 i do expect the betas to do so unless they are making a completely different version of Windows 8.

hmmm it could be that the Angitum technology is not yet compatible with Windows 8, possibly a driver or something? :/

Thanks for the information! :) I am looking forward to version 8. I like the new user interface. I have used avast! since version 4 with those crazy loud noises when a virus has been found. But when version 7 came I swapped over to CIS 6 and have been happy with it. If version 8 really impresses me. I may drop CAV for avast! antivirus and use CFW with it. I just sure hope they are going to be compatible.

i think the same too, Windows 8 patchguard is even more complicated to workaround than Windows 7. I admire Tzuk, developer of Sandboxie, to always find a solid workaround for that.

Detection is not that great it's still a beta so that's to be expected. The real test will be the RC beta and the final.... the current version of avast 7.0 has very good detection.

The Premier version contains 3 new features on top of the current Avast Internet Security. All Antivirus vendors are doing this, bunking up the prices. You can get these equivalent "features" -if that's what you can call them- for much less or even free and provide better protection, than what Avast Premier is offering.

There is a new product tier called Premier, it includes 3 new features:
• Data Shredder for wiping files, drives, and partitions
• Software Updater in autoupdate mode
• AccessAnywhere for remotely connecting to your PC no matter where you are.

Is PUP-enabled by default, or do we still need to (optionally) enable it manually?
