Hi everyone,

new beta version 17.5.2298 is released.

What's new:
- Tiny Firewall for blocking EternalBlue exploit - (internal) It is a part of StreamFilter, turned ON/OFF by Online Shield
- internal fixes

As many of you are aware Avast and AVG are 1 company now. Cause development of 2 different UIs takes different time, in this beta we introduce Ransomware shield in AVG beta now. You can expect Ransomware shield in Avast in next betas.

If you wanna try Ransomware protection in AVG build, check this link:

Good, but why they need a whole new tiny shield for stopping an exploit and this has to go through beta and be delivered after tests!? There are firewalls for blocking ports like the Windows Firewall and the Avast one in paid solutions. Maybe it is a sign that they need something like Norton's IPS?

As it is a feature of online shield,it seems that it will be provided free of cost, that's good for avast free consumers.
In stable version or in future builds,it may be able to block most other exploits too and that too at network level.
That's just my idea.
Thanks for reading.

They might. Apparently AVG has an IPS, so it could be possible Avast will get it.

Still at the end of the day, two products are still different in terms on detection and accuracy despite of almost identical in components.

Since this will defeat the so called healthy competition, Avast is indeed already gathered strong performance way back before where AVG stand behind on it.

Sorry, but why 2 different betas if they are one company?.
It's not as simple as 1+1=2.

Avast will keep AVG as an individual company. As already mentioned here and before, it's due to market share. While Avast is popular in Region X, AVG is popular in Region Y. Merging the 2 software into a single product will make Avast lose customers/clients, as not all AVG users like Avast and not all Avast users like AVG.

You can check the AVG and Avast Blog / Press News for more information about their plans.

For now, be grateful that there's no (AVG) Zen integration in Avast software.
