Avast Free 7 continuously improving much and with the gradually contribute components as it helps to defend and prevent viruses/malware beside on signatures/heuristics itself.

avast was always reputed to be friendly user, give it an HIPS and it will lost a non-negligible marrket share.

If you set the Behavior Blocker from "Auto-decide" to "Ask" , you'll basically have HIPS. - http://malwaretips.com/Thread-Avast-IS-tweaks

Avast Team managed to develop a BB instead of HIPS due from its problem when a user used that component.
 
Avast does have pretty good market shares that's why it become famous on their free AV.
