Looks like Hardened Mode was renamed to Smart Mode. I thought they dropped it, good to see they've just renamed it. Hopefully it still functions the same way!
No I'm not talking about the Ransomware shield's Smart Mode, in the video, under Advanced settings of File shield there's an smart mode, that's exactly where you can find hardened mode in previous version. It even has a similar but not the same description.

If it's recommended then why don't they activate it by default? Not the only AV that seems to have problems with finding proper default settings...
This is probably due to some legal reasons. PUPs are not malware, so some products don't delete them by default. Microsoft Defender's PUP protection is still off by default, Bitdefender refuses to add some PUPs to their definitions for home products specially, Kaspersky don't even notify if you run some types of niche adware or risktools (you'll have to manually go into notification settings to enable the notifications which is quite hard to find), ESET at the time of installation asks the user if they want to enable detections for PUA which is different from their PUP classifications, Avast don't remove some PUPs by default and they also have another detection called Tools which was introduced a few months ago that is disabled by default. Like these many vendors are careful about PUPs. Legal issues are the potential reason behind this. So it's not by choice I think.
