It happens that sometimes my laptop's internet connection blocks itself and it stops working. (the common yellow sign). It fixes when i disable Avast Premier Firewall and disable & re-enable the wifi. Then i have connection and can turn the Firewall back on, and have no problem for a while.

Any ideas why this may be happening? Haven't tweaked much the Firewall since it isn't that advanced.

Thanks!

backup your current settings except the firewall -> reset everything -> restore from the backup and not the firewall rules
if the problem still persists -> set the firewall rule to auto-decide and also check the allowed ports for each applications
disable windows firewall to prevent conflictions
choose your wifi as Private, uncheck "Friends"

avast firewall is a bit hard to play with and it may cause some unexpected problems
first we should let it auto-decide for a few days and then we can play around with the settings

Your connection is set to "Private" or "Public"?

Here if I set my connection to "Private" then no probs.
But if I set my connection to "Public" then blocks connections.

I have used "Public" with Windows FW, Kaspersky FW, Eset FW, Comodo FW, etc... But never had probs.

Dont know why Avast IS FW blocks connections with "Public" here?

Check FW settings - Network profiles - Check that all are your connections & set to "Private".
If you use VPN, check that too set to "Private".

Here under Network Profile - I have 4 entries related to "VPN" And one was set to "Public" & I was having connection prob.
Now I set everything under Network Profile to "Private" & no probs.

did you try to reboot the system?
after a reboot, avast firewall prompted me to allow a new network which I was using before the reboot o_O
it also showed different MAC address. Same network but different MAC addresses at the first reboot. Don't understand why but after that, it has been working flawlessly
