Hot Take AVG is going the same way like norton

I’ve previously used Norton and Avast (which is essentially the same as the current AVG) and never really had issues with intrusive ads or "upselling." The main reason is that their apps actually respect the user’s notification preferences regarding promotional offers. Plus, the installers are flexible enough that you can perform a custom install to keep the antivirus free of bloatware.

In contrast, I’m currently using McAfee, and I've found there is simply no effective way to disable the constant, annoying pop-ups. It seems far less user-friendly when it comes to maintaining a "clean" system environment compared to the others above.
I have a McAfee Total subscription and tried it again a couple of months ago and got hit with 4 pop ups in a about 3 weeks, and uninstalled it. I got it for an excellent price from Best Buy so they, McAfee don't have my CC information or have it on auto renewal.

If I ever hear anything here on the forum were promotions can be disabled and a toggle switch for dark mode is an option, would be willing to try it again.

At some point, the incessant, disrespectful advertising just feels like dragging your name through mud. Some people will never buy add-ons, and that should be fine. We're using your antivirus.

These companies seem incredibly profitable as it is without me forking out another $20 or $40. Gen Digital's annual revenue is up to over $4B in recent time. Are you kidding me?

Brands like Norton and McAfee must feel untouchable.

Avast Premium doesn't upsell anywhere but the store, and I'm enjoying it on my system. You'll find that Norton 360 has upped their game, however. I gave it a trial very recently, and there are quite a lot of complaints on the Norton Forum and other parts of the Web.

The default Smart Scan, unlike Avast, is essentially a big upsell in today's Norton. After it scans for temporary files, registry keys, etc. the home never stops alerting you how you need Norton Utilities to fix thousands of computer issues causing a slowdown. It looks like scary adware. Users variously suggest avoiding it and using quick scan instead.
i just uninstalled Mcfee for the same reason . got tired of the stupid notifications

That's what I had done as well, for the same reason. Let alone, at one point it had dark mode, and when I had for some reason did an uninstall and reinstall, no longer had that option, and it never came back.
They are planning to release a new version, which has returned in a beta testing phase for only a select group of users. The GUI will be changing soon, so stay updated.

Norton 360 Deluxe that I got from Nickstar1 works very well, 10 out of 10 and is very light together with my Win 11, in fact I have never had anything better when it comes to being problem-free with other programs. Runs Google Chrome in Norton sandbox only for banking and Firefox to anything else. The same goes for AVG Ultimate, great programs both, no need to complain here, just thanks.

I’m glad both products are working well for you franz Personally, I prefer AVG over Norton because it’s more straightforward and gets the job done. AVG and Bitdefender are my go-to choices for my family PCs.
I couldn't use Bitdefender because banking froze all the time, the rest was fine. I was not the only one with this problem with Bitdefender and banking.
