AVG Secure VPN browser extension lets you control your VPN connection and Ad Blocker right from your browser toolbar.

Please note that to use this extension, you'll also need an active subscription and our VPN desktop app, which provides additional features and setting. With AVG Secure VPN, you can keep your internet connection safer and more private, and access the content you love, whether you’re at home or on the move.

– Keep your online activities hidden from internet service providers, hackers, and companies with our private VPN. One click, and they can’t see them.
– Help protect your private data with bank-grade encryption that tunnels your communication through any network, even on unsecured public Wi-Fi.
– Change the location you appear to be connecting from with a click, giving you safer access to your favorite shows, videos, and websites, whether you’re at home or on the move.

Key features of AVG Secure VPN:
– With over 100 VPN locations worldwide, you can enjoy what you’re doing more securely, privately, and without interruption.
– Optimized for streaming: Watch shows and sports wherever you are with streaming-optimized servers and ample bandwidth for a high-quality experience.
– Ad Blocker: Block intrusive ads and manage your VPN directly from your desktop browser.
– No-log policy: When you’re connected to our VPN servers, we don’t track the apps you use, the websites you visit, or the content you can consume.

They also offer a web protection feature, but I don’t think it’s necessary because of the built-in web filtering.

Hi nickstar1, I agree—if you mean AVG Online Security’s malicious-site warnings, it is mostly redundant in Edge. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen already checks sites and downloads using reputation data and warns about phishing, malware and suspicious files. AVG’s desktop Web Shield would add further overlap if installed.

The new extension is mainly a convenience layer: the desktop AVG Secure VPN application and subscription still provide the VPN, while the extension supplies toolbar controls and an ad blocker. AVG confirms that its Ad Blocker is part of the VPN extension. If you already use a capable content blocker, that feature may be redundant too.

I would install it only to control the VPN from Edge or specifically use AVG’s blocker. Otherwise, keeping SmartScreen enabled and avoiding another high-access browser extension is the cleaner setup. Just keep the categories separate: SmartScreen filters dangerous sites, an ad blocker filters page content, and a VPN changes the network route—none fully replaces the others.
