Why is that? Ghostery's resource usage and blocking capabilities are comparable to uBlock Origin for me.
0 day adblocking are not up there plus resource utilization and flexibility is something which is not in its favour

With 0-day ad blocking, do you mean daily updates? I didn't check the updates info when I was testing it.

i think with most sites the extent and variety of filters gives ublock a certain edge in latest ads sneaking through, plus its pua script detection is better. Ublock filters are more regularly updated.

I'm now a bit torn between Ghostery and uBlock Origin Lite, if anyone used both can you please share your experience of both extensions (pros & cons)?
I've used both and I'm always a bit undecided, but from my latest YouTube experience these days, I can say that Ghostery performed better than uBOL. Thanks to its AI and continuous daily updates, it bypassed the YouTube video and comment blocking that penalized uBOL until the release of its new version (with updated filters). Ghostery's strong point is precisely this: its AI and real-time daily updates, which other MV3 extensions no longer offer. Furthermore, Ghostery is much more refined in terms of graphics and functionality. Both perform well, and Ghostery doesn't use a lot of RAM, unlike AdGuard, for example.
So for now, I've decided to stick with Ghostery, which isn't disappointing me. Reading various reviews, everyone considers it one of the best ad-blocking extensions and excellent for protecting privacy from tracking cookies, etc.

Ghostery consumes more resources and its lists and settings are locked.
The difference in resource usage isn't significant. I only notice a faster response time for uBOL compared to Ghostery, but this is due to its "dynamic" AI-based block recognition feature, which constantly updates the lists, unlike uBOL, which relies on filters updated to that extension version (they update when the new version is released).

Ghostery is using constantly 160+ MB RAM, while uBOL uses 30+MB RAM "only" when scrolling.
Ghostery uses significantly more cpu (of course I could not record exactly).
So yes, I uses signficantly more resources, which is feasible if it provides a better blocking which I am not eligible to test and offer exact figures.

With Ghostery:

  1. You cannot use dynamic filtering.
  2. You have no hope with this test Ping Spotter
  3. Or this test Content Filters and Proxy Detection
  4. I have no idea if you can enter a custom filter list with Ghostery, but with uBoL you can enter it with a few tricks (even if the filter list is not updated).

With Ghostery, both tests were passed.

I have used both uBOL and Ghostery; Ghostery is slightly weaker in ad blocking, especially against anti-ad blocking scripts on 🏴‍☠️sites. The overall experience with Ghostery was the same as uBOL. I have noticed no YouTube issues with uBOL (default, privacy, and annoyances filter lists) on Vivaldi.

Thank you all for your responses. This is the first time I understand that MV3 extensions are only updated with the new release and not on a daily basis. I noticed that the Vivaldi ad blocker gets daily updates (I think the Brave ad blocker does too), so I thought extensions did the same.

For Firefox-based browsers, I use uBlock Origin and am satisfied with it, but for Chromium browsers, I feel the following:
  • AdGuard has become resource-heavy and bulky, more like an application than an extension in its current state.
  • It seems that the developer of uBlock Origin Light has not given it the same attention and effort as uBlock Origin.
  • Ghostry has changed completely since I last used it, so I'm going to give it a try.
