Question Best password manager ( Free & Paid ) & why ?

Bitwarden extension did it, it removed categories! The only reason I left Edge Wallet, now I have to scroll through 200 passwords to search for a needle in a haystack. WTF?!

I noticed that as well...Folders are gone. For some reason, thankfully, they are still on the iPhone app (for now). Stupid move.
(will probably have to keep an eye on apple updates for the app, and not install them)

Yeah, Bitwarden desktop app has them, but there is no autofill only copy/paste, but I do not have currently time to migrate to another PM, I would not mind even paid one.

Still very happy with NordPass. Mostly on the phone. Does things effortlessly and quickly.
Anothe one I like on the iPhone as well, a virtual unknown, PasswordBoss. Very quick and simple. I like that!
Still using BitWarden on my desktop. Until they dropped the folders, was easy peasy.

The auto fill still works for me. Not always, but it does work. Click on the app icon, if needed, and hit the autofill button next to the username/password that you are trying to log into. The app will also show, with a number, in how many logins you have saved for the page you are on.

You can export them from the desktop app to keep them organized on folders until you find a new password manager.

Keepass or KeepassXC still for me. I like the feel of KeepassXC but I don't like it remembering which folder or last used entry. Keepass remembers where you last clicked on save (e.g Root folder) so I tend to use that but I prefer the KeepassXC Windows pin unlock for ease of use.

Can you recommend KeePass plugins/extensions to make it act exactly as KeepassXC? I'm asking because there are too many plugins/extension/clients, and I don't know what to trust, after all it is a password manager, and you have to add something tested and trusted to extend its functionality.

Good point, a lot of these addons are old. I've been using KeeOpt2 and earlyupdatecheck but both are years old. Maybe I need to do a fresh look at these.

bitwarden started causing me some issues a few months back after an update (primarily not connecting on my phone). Switched to vaultwarden (A lightweight, community-maintained reimplementation of the Bitwarden server, which allows users to use the bitwrden mobile app) and I have been a fan since.

I am intrigued. However, after reading the vaultwarden homepage, it seems a little risky. Can you explain more of why you've gone this route and why you feel it's worth the risk

Both free & paid: bitwarden. They don't make the free version so crippled that is unusable. I pay for it not because i need it but because i want to support them. My only complaint maybe 6 months ago or so is the UI was ugly & they resisted adding overlay popup interface but its now there. They redesigned the UI & its much better. Still not as nice as 1Password's interface but its good enough. Its open source & has had code audits done on it. They were one of the first ones to add argon2 hash which is great for security. They were pretty quick to implement passkeys & i have enjoyed they way the implemented it.

I agree with this 100%. I'll just add that the pay version is not expensive. I just reupped for another year.

KeepassXC gets another vote from me (works as intended/expected). Their browser extension - keeps getting updated/improved - so that too is convenient.

try 1password the best on every platform full of nice detailed small features, in paid password managers nothing beats 1password they are in another league by themselves.

Maybe one other thing to add to the list is what @partha_roy pointed out, the free version doesn't allow adding CC information, compared to the paid version.

I don't remember the default shortcut, sorry. I always set mine to Ctrl + B I thought Bitwarden change it, thanks for clarifying that you set yours. But isn't using the inline autofill menu an easier solution?

I am unaware of any differences related to security between the free version and paid version of Bitwarden. The paid version adds up to 1GB of file storage, emergency access, password hygiene reports, and expanded sharing options

The free version and paid version both use the same open-source encryption technology. I am also willing to self-host, so did not need Bitwarden to be hosting my stuff.

Self hosting can definitely cause security concerns but following their documentation and other guides on github can definitely assist anyone to set things up securely!
