only if you bought a router from a serious vendor, brands like tp-link or d-link don't even dare to release FW updates
EDIT: two years ago I bought a tp-link C60 router and 5ghz died in 6 months, today I checked if they released FW updates without luck Download for Archer C60 | TP-Link, Mikrotik releases FW updates like every month or less and latest beta is running 5.3 kernel.

I’m a bit partial to ASUS. They are good about long term support of their products.
