This is awesome! Bitdefender is launching a home network antimalware-virus box (similar to hardware firewall) that protects all the devices connected to your home wireless network! What do you guys think about this? Just wondering because I might buy it! I know the only problem at the moment it's available for the US only but I'm guessing it will be available for other countries soon. So that's advantage! The only thing I'm considering is the box price which is $199 plus it comes with one year of protection after that they charge $99 per year! I think this is a bit pricey!

199$ ?!?!?

Creative one! But I feel, its a little early to need such a device for home-tech protection.. I mean, we're not that much advanced to high-tech products. Smart tv's etc. doesnt need such security for now. I'd wait for a while until things are settled @ Bitdefender and its BOX.

I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but honestly I don't really like it. It's not just because of pricing (which I don't like anyways) but also because I might not want Bitdefender somewhere. I change antiviruses because I like to test them out and see which is best suited for my platform, and according to BitDefender, instead of just installing a copy of BIS, it actually physically controls it from the box- either all or nothing- unless I'm mistaken.

And whoa... paying $199 + $99 per year... are you ready to pay up $1090 in antivirus protection in a decade? Even buying Antivirus Plus for 5 devices for 10 years is only $689.80...

Update: BitDefender BOX allows control of individual devices, but on a smartphone only... Not for me! (Read the bottom post)

I bought a Samsung 3d smart tv and it comes with integrated antivirus I'm guessing just because it has an internet browser but honestly I don't use it!

That is a very nice concept... Competition will make it more affordable trough time if this project do well on the market.

It's the first time I have heard of this, I take it you'll still need an Antivirus installed on your devices. I'm still not sure what it does, is it similar to web filtering?

Apparently you also need an iPhone/Android to just connect to the router and set up! I'm 100% not going to buy this now because I don't have a smart phone... Bitdefender, you still need to consider people without smartphones!

I'm guessing it works the same way a hardware firewall does! But I can't assume anything and the page gives very basic info! Posted features give no details but general info so I guess we have to wait until Jan, 2015 with the launch!

Yes there's a side note that explains some routers are automatically configured though!

"Due to manufacturer restrictions, some features are available only for certain operating systems"

"Some routers are compatible with the automatic setup mode. Others need manual setup. The app will detect this and guide you through the process."

At least the app will be available for android and iOS! But there's no details yet which I think is important at this point because they are launching in January!

Considering how expensive it is I would imagine they would eventually make a special offer for it.

Something like:
50% off
2 years free

As for the poll question, no, I'm not interested in buying it.

I think I will take a pass on this. The concept is somewhat interesting but the price is not.

Its basically a network antivirus, website filter and intrusion prevention system combined together. According to what I have researched, BOX would scan the network traffic for malicious traffic patterns like exploits and malicious files. Also, it comes with "light software agents" which users can install on their devices, thus replacing traditional AV software. These agents are light because the web filtering and network scanning components of the Bitdefender AV are taken care off by your router, so basically these agents are like cloud antiviruses. Maybe that's why it costs quite a bit.

I think this concept is very good. It brings previously enterprise level technologies down to the consumer level. However, I wouldn't buy it as there are products similar to it at cheaper prices, like those by Trendmicro and SurfRight.

Good concept but looks like a not fully blown feature which will meet by only small users than expand not in smartphones but for PC's also especially in large business. (Price is a problem for that)
