In past I tried Brave several times, but did not like it. But last week I installed Brave again, turned off the stuff I do not need or like (da bloat? -- easy enough to do) and using its Brave search engine too, and I am liking it (fwiw).

You mean debloat using the MT guide? I agree - I just don't like tinkering with software like that to get it working. That's why i am trying catsxp, but if that doesn't work out I'll definitely try the brave + de-bloat guide.

I created an account on Catsxp forum and posted about the detection by Emsisoft. My post is awaiting approval. Let's wait and see what the developer has to say about the detection and the invalidity of the digital signature.

Thanks @oldschool, I did not see @SeriousHoax's point in the other post - thank you for pointing me to it. Just for my information though, does the same apply to catscxp - yes it was released yesterday as well (like zen) - but is it also unsigned like zen? Both catsxp and zen have few detections, catsxp is only detected by emsisoft offline, online it essentially comes clean with no detections, while zen is detected by like 3 AVs online + emsisoft offline - but not the big ones.

According to Emsisoft report in my Online Management Dashboard, Catsxp installer is signed with an invalid digital signature. The catsxpuodate.exe is not digitally signed.

Zen browser installer is not signed, but what I find weird that Emsisoft Anti-Malware Network indicated that the installer is of Bad Reputation (blocked by community). Zen was also detected by Kaspersky's System Watcher according to user on Reddit. The installer is also detected by Avira according to VT.

the developer of catsxp also mentioned 'cost issues' with regards to holding ublock origin - if costs/resources permit he said, they will maintain it. I can't find the catsxp forum post now unfortunately. Now we have a repsonse.
So in my opinion one should not put their trust on a causal project bc now I see it nothing but a casual project being marketed as a private and secure alternative which is pure nonsense.

Not sure I get it but ok. It's not like vivaldi just has an inherent humanistic motive of really being secure, and even worse, they haven't even updated their browser to the latest update yet (They are two months behind, so much for security and a non-casual project 🤣🤣🤣
Nor will I let a single secondary scanner like emsisoft dictate my life on its own, as I said in my post here.

My decision was not based on Emsisoft's detection. That detection opened my eyes for a couple of issues here. One the invalidity of the digital signature used. Second the reply I received from the developer of Catsxp which does not promote sense of trust in the whole project. Third, I hate the name which I usually mispronounce as Catnip lol

Sometimes too much money can lead to problems too, but I see the developer so far as trustworthy and honest, it's another thing if u mean that some rogue actor can take advantage of this situation - but i mean if i keep usign this browser i will get it directly from the website, and my main trust will be multiple antivirus vendors, and if I actually hear something fishy that's a non false-positive of course I will reconsider. Brave and Vivaldi have clean records in terms of not having malicious things - i expect the same from catsxp (yes the name is weird). Anyway my sincere wish is that you enjoy vivaldi, or de-bloated brave if u move on to that.

Actually I reported the installer as a false positive to both Emsisoft and Avira. I have nothing against Catsxp except what I said before. I will be waiting for the result to see if it is indeed a false positive.

Regarding debloating Brave, I do not think I will ever do that. I hate the crypto garbage that is being bundled with Brave even if it can be disabled. Vivaldi, too, is bloated but during setup it asks you what you want to use and it does not have any of that crypto nonsense.

Yes thank you, look forward to hearing Emsisoft's response. Also sidekick is not responsive, they are mia, i'll still forward their response when i receive one but at this point i am not comfortable with them. Now i understand why i am getting messages from some websites that my browser is not supported any longer, it's too old lol!!!! ); );

I'll keep you posted. Regarding Sidekick browser, I recommended that you uninstall it.

Apparently, catsxps's own blocker is not the best/not the same as brave,
It originally had the same filter lists as Brave, but eventually these got removed and you had to add filter lists manually. I'm not sure if Catsxp currently comes with any filter lists by default, as I've been using it for over three years now, without reinstalling it.

@roger_m

It seems not to, leaving the way for adding custom lists, which I think is a good think in case ublock origin itself is no longer supported due to manifest changes? Is there even a way to turn the module off?

I also submitted this as a bug to catsxp, but would you have any idea as to why is it that when you hover over the url bar in catsxp, the url bar expands? This also creates an issue because sometimes it does not 'unexpand' after moving mouse away, causing a bit of web content to be blocked. Do you know of anyway to prevent this expansion to occur in the first place? I don't even get its purpose...I posted my bug here in these two posts, with screens/videos:
