Hi and welcome to the malwaretips.com forums!

I'm Kuttus and I am going to try to assist you with your problem. Please take note of the below:
  • I will start working on your malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine!
  • The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Refrain from running self fixes as this will hinder the malware removal process.
  • It may prove beneficial if you print of the following instructions or save them to notepad as I post them.
Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.

Before we start:
Please be aware that removing malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.
<hr />
Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing
  • Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
  • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool X86 and save it to a flash drive.
  • Download List Parts and save it to the flash drive also.
  • Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
  • Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • Wait for the CD to detect your hardware and load the operating system
  • Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop
Note as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
  • Insert the USB with FRST64
  • Locate the flash drive with FRST64 and double click
  • The tool will start to run.
  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • Next click List Parts and then click Scan
  • It will make a log Results.txt on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Hi Kuttus

thanks for taking time to assist me. I will start to prepare the downloads now.
My main concern at the moment is how to backup my personal files when I cannot use the windows interface. Is there a way? Main concerns are recent un-backed up photos, Excel, Word ans PowerPoint documents. Things I know I should have backed up already but put off till a day with more free time.

Regards

Graham

Hi again Kuttus

Hopefully my reply / questions have already posted, but I have another quick Question - you state to use a blank CD - am I correct in assuming a blank DVD is OK to use?

Hi,
it is Windows XP Home Edition SP3
Think it is 32 and not 64.

Sorry re large gaps of being on line. I'm in UK and times I can get on are a bit limited due to family etc. I am also going to have to purchase a new USB stick as the one I used for the Kickstart doesn't let me view it anymore (flicks on and off on the My Computer screen) and my other one has a lot of back-up items already.

Apart from the Back-up issues on the damaged PC that I am not sure about I have also thought of a further point that I hope you may clarify for me...

Once I have booted up from the CD/DVD you state I should locate the USB - will this be via the program from the CD/DVD - OTLPENet.exe or am I going to have to locate it using the DOS screen commands?
If it is from the OTLPENet.exe and is obvious then should be OK but if DOS then I think I am going to need to know how and additionally I feel that this has been compromised by the malware already (re changes experienced from stage two to stage three - restore point to start-up options).

Regards

Graham

You will get a OTL interface after you boot in form the OTL Bootable CD... You will be able to take back up also from that one.... No need to worry, Try it and let me know if you are having any trouble.

Went to put the Farbar Recover Scan tool on to USB and clicked it to run thinking it might have option to install to USB (or do it automatically) but realised it was going to run on netbook however wouldn't run as netbook using is 32 bit so have checked the bleeping computer site and downloaded to 32 bit version. I am sure the infected PC is 32 bit as it must be 8 years old at least. I have dragged both to the USB.

Now please download this file and save it to your Flash Drive.

[attachment=4534]

Then, boot to system recovery, plug in your flash drive, open FRST and click fix. Post the generated log. Then attempt to boot to normal mode.

At the moment I am having trouble backing up photos etc.
I cannot get any response from the second CD drive. It shows in the My Computer screen but when I try to open to paste to it gives an error message.
I have pasted to the second hard drive instead. Will this be affected in any fixes or is it free of infection? Or should I disconnect it before any fix?

How do I boot to system recovery?
Is it via the F8 key or am I booting from the CD drive to start up the FRST program?

Hi Kuttus

Hope I have done this correctly.

Did the fix and this log was generated

BUT the file that I last put on the USB is not on there anymore.

Should I copy it to the USB and try again?

I decided to re-do the fix just incase I had not put the fixlist on the USB and can now see that it deletes this entry.
The resulting log showed File/Directory not found for every entry so I have not posted the new log.

Booted up PC as normal and seems to be OK.

Opened up user account and no sign of ransom screen.

Opened up Internet Explorer and still no sign (I have not connected to the modem though so is just the program running).

What next?

Should I run all these direct from Internet on affected PC or via my netbook and transfer using USB?
