Chromebook as a school laptop?

I don't really have much to add that hasn't already been said, so all I will say is that I personally would just recommend you wait and get a system with Windows on it instead (added variety which means it'll potentially be much more useful in the long run), however if you do decide to get a Chromebook and you do decide to install Linux over it, you may still be able to access some Windows software via utilization of WINE.

Trust this man's word! While you are feeling that you are only gonna use it for notes and such in class, you will be exposed to a lot of different software and 100% of the software used during class at my Uni is Windows products. Once you get into Uni, the 2 most support OS are win and mac.... The engineering apps offer thru EDU is also mostly for windows.... List Of All Products | New Releases | Autodesk
You can join me and @RoboMan as Engineering Failures =D
Life as engineering failures isn't that bad. You go out a lot to pubs and parteh, you drink and you know lots of people. Then you realize you're an informatic addict who spends 90% of his time on his house testing software and gaming and you end up on the conclusion that you suck at Engineering but your life is awsome because you only drink Pepsi and play League of Legends.

I must say, best explanation of an Engineer Student right there!!!!!!

Therefore you would need a strong computer for games, MT, and testing software, as the transition to Uni would be smoother. Good luck on your decision!
