Followed steps to remove surrogate virus, but now it won't let me open certain sites in IE or download anything from online. I tried reseting all security settings in IE to default. .dll surrogate still showing up every now and then in the task manager.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

The surrogate is not showing in the task manager, but I still can't go to any search engine or email websites (google, yahoo, gmail, Hotmail) except for msn.com which is my homepage. Also, the google toolbar in IE will not do anything when I try to search.

I tried this and it didn't help. I even tried to go to Mozilla's website to see if I could download another browser, but it just says "blank page" on the IE tabs when I try that.

There is a folder in the temp location that keeps coming back (folder name ''1450''). If you click on this the surrogate comes back in the task manager. I've tried deleting it numerous times, but it just comes back.

Thank you. I now have control over my IE again. I may just have to live with it, but that same folder I mentioned earlier (1450) in the TEMP folder is coming back. If I even highlight this folder (don't even have to actually open it), the surrogate comes back in the task manager for a split second, then disappears.

I run that program 2 different times and both times when the notebook popped up at completion, it said could not find specified file path and there wasn't any text in the notepad. I looked on the C drive and the attached file is the only thing I could find. I will not be able to run anymore scans, etc until tomorrow. Thank you for all the help on this so far.
