Is there any concensus on the best comodo firewall version to use on windows 7 sp1? .I reinstalled windows 7 on an old dell inspirion 530 and would like some user opinions on best version.Originally i think i used version 10 with cruelsisters setup using containment and no hips.It worked well.I now see theres a version 12 ,so im wondering is there any advantage in using the later versions and if so ...do they play nice with windows 7 64bit?.
Thanks in advance

There isn’t a single “everyone agrees” best Comodo Firewall/CIS version for Windows 7 SP1, but there is a fairly consistent pattern in community advice: use the newest build that still officially supports Windows 7, unless you run into stability/driver issues on your specific machine.

Windows 7 reality check
Windows 7 SP1 is end-of-life, so even a strong firewall/containment setup can’t fully compensate for missing OS security fixes. If this PC will ever be exposed to the internet for general browsing, the safest improvement is still moving to a supported OS. If it’s for light/controlled use, a hardened setup can still reduce risk.

v10 vs v12 on Windows 7 x64 (what people generally report)
  • Version 10 (older): Many users liked it for being relatively lightweight and “predictable,” and CruelSister-style containment-focused setups were popular on it. The downside is age: older components/drivers and less chance of vendor fixes if something breaks or conflicts with newer software.
  • Version 12 (newer): Typically the better choice if it runs well on your system, because it’s the newer codebase and generally the last major line people used on Windows 7. The downside is that later builds can be more “feature-heavy,” and some users have reported occasional compatibility quirks on older hardware/drivers.

So what’s the practical “best” choice?
  • If you want the most sensible default: install the latest Comodo Firewall/CIS build that still lists Windows 7 x64 support on Comodo’s official download/release notes, then apply your containment-first configuration (like you used before).
  • If you specifically value the “it just worked on this box” factor and don’t want to troubleshoot: sticking with the same major version you previously ran successfully (v10) can be reasonable on that particular Inspiron 530—just understand you’re choosing older software.

Compatibility / “plays nice” tips on Windows 7 x64
  • Download only from Comodo’s official site (or an official mirror linked by Comodo). Avoid repackaged installers.
  • Verify the installer’s digital signature before running it.
  • Create a restore point (or a full image backup) before installing, because firewalls install low-level network drivers.
  • Avoid running two software firewalls at once. If you use Comodo’s firewall, keep Windows Firewall disabled (or at least ensure they’re not both trying to filter outbound in conflicting ways).
  • If you see networking breakage after install, boot into Safe Mode / use System Restore and roll back—driver conflicts can happen on older systems.

Bottom line
For Windows 7 SP1 x64, the closest thing to “consensus” is: try the latest v12-era build that still supports Windows 7, and only fall back to v10 if you hit stability/compatibility problems on that specific Dell. If this PC will be used online regularly, upgrading the OS remains the most meaningful security improvement.

From memory only up to .8012 works with Windows 7 and you need to install additional patches Comodo Internet Security 2020 .8012 Released the installer comes with redundant additional software so ensure you select options and uncheck everything apart form Firewall. Actually the current version is pretty much .8012 but reskinned and some coding to make it work with Windows 11 so your not really missing out on protection.

The post advises the below. Direct download link for the Firewall only:
Comodo Firewall
https://download.comodo.com/cis/download/installs/8050/standalone/cfw_installer.exe

-------------------------
Only for Windows 7 users
Before you install new CIS release or update from previous version you need to install following Windows updates. These packages are necessary for installation of CIS on Windows 7.
Microsoft Update Catalog
Microsoft Update Catalog
Download Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3033929) from Official Microsoft Download Center

I strongly suggest just going with @cruelsister setup: Comodo Firewall - Cruelsister Variation

😰😰😰🤔🤔🤔😧😧😧🥴🥴🥴 Windows 7 Sp 1? Do you have a ☠️ wish? Comodo won't save you, as others said install Linux.
Thanks for the reply....The use of this pc is more of a hobbyist nature i.e browsing ,revisiting old software etc so there will be nothing of importance on it i.e banking or email.I have used linux mint for the past 7 years and used that in the same way ,no banking or email.

I think Linux is the way to go. Linux will increase security as well as make your machine fast again.
Thank you...i have used linux mint for the past 7 years and its great.I upgraded to zena last week and found that boot time seemed to be getting longer than usual and even on linux older pcs are struggling more with the newer builds ..imo.

Try Antix or MX Linux, light and easy. Interesting concept using Win 7, but I'd go for Windows 2000. No one would be able to infect you because modern malware wouldn't run.

Are you making a honeypot?

Is there a possibility to go for a Linux distro instead? You're installing an extremely outdated & insecure operating sys

I also liked 2000 and 98 😁.In fact I still have some software I used on them.Remember diamond cs port explorer, black ice defender, system safety monitor...I think it was windows 98 that I first put on outpost firewall.Seemed to be lots of innovation in the software then.It was great fine tuning the pc to run with all the different softwares ,and not getting the pc to crash.
