Hi all

Comodo Online Security v1.2.45944.37 Released (for Mozilla Based Browsers

Comodo Online Security v1.2.45944.37 Released (for Mozilla Based Browsers) - News / Announcements / Feedback - COS

Hi All,
We are happy to announce availability of Comodo Online Security browser extension for Mozilla Based browsers.
We previously released version for Chromium based browsers.

You can install from following Mozilla page:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/comodo-online-security/

and product page is also updated to reflect the same:
https://antivirus.comodo.com/online-security.php

as mentioned previously, following are few points:
What does it do?
This browser extension protects you against malicious and phishing URLs. When it encounter one such URL, it will show warning page as shown in enclosed snap, allowing user to: Continue browsing or Go back
It also allows user to report false-positive and you can also report suspicious sites.

I have Comodo Internet Security - Web-filtering, do i still need it?
In general no. It uses the same cloud based database. But there have been cases where for certain blocked cases CIS has not been able to show proper block page allowing you to continue browsing. Down the road we will be shipping this with Comodo Internet Security/Internet Security Essentials / Comodo Secure Shopping also.

What's next in it?
We are working on some cool innovation, where we will be able to detect phishing pages on the fly. Phishing is something that is increasing and need default-deny approach, like we have for unknown files. We have our own web site, where you can see latest phishing cases https://phishbank.org/

What about extensions for other browsers?
In works, we hope to release ones for IE and Edge this month.

Why extension, why not application?
Browser applications model is now getting more rigid and allowing to provide additional security via extensions only rather external applications.

If you have any feature request, you may pin under wish-list section.

If you like it, please don't forget to leave your rating and feedback on Mozilla Add-ons page.

Please give it a try and share your feedback.

Thanks
-umesh

With best Regards

Today i had an update to Comodo Ice Dragon to version 59.03.11 with Comodo Online Security pre installed. Is there any need to keep it, when i am also running CIS and Comodo Ice Dragon? Because i suppose they are doing the same job in web filtering.

I recommend you to remove it first because this extension is so weak that close to useless, always scored 0% in my test
2nd because the browser itself can also block malicious links
you should replace it with norton safe web, windows defender browser protection or malwarebytes

My initial testing based on malcode and vx-vault showed simular results. As with most Comodo software it needs to mature first Could you try it again in your round up test for url-blockers? I tried 3 randomly from malcode and vx-vault and all 6 were blocked by Comodo add-on.

I did a quick test with comodo online security
it was extremely impressive
it seems like my last test was about a buggy release which was totally useless

Now they fixed it. Comodo missed only 1 phishing link and blocked all malware links

I don't know about the icedragin browser but you probably don't need the comodo extension
instead, you should use an extension from another vendor such as Norton safe web, malwarebytes, windows defender browser protection (or just keep the same setup, not adding anything else)
you already have CIS and icedragon which probably use the exact same databases

Icedragon has online extension and alot more pre-installed. If you have CIS installed you dont need online extension at all

Sorry i misread, this thread. ice dragon doesnt have pre-installed extensions but comodo dragon does.

Offtopic: Its weird that comodo dns / online security seems to be near to useless but comodo dragons built in anti malware seems to be very effective against sketchy sites. Also it seems to be very lightweight as 32bit even with overkill extensions

DNS only blocks websites on domain level but nothing else (dropbox.com, for example)
while an extension, browser module or CIS can do some analysis on downloaded files and the whole urls so they can give more accurate results (dropbox.com/maliciousfile.exe)
for example, if I upload a malicious file to dropbox and send the link to other people, DNS should not block dropbox because dropbox stores my malware. Meanwhile, the extension can block my dropbox link due to some heuristics or analysis

ice dragon only had drag and drop extension installed, rest are built in? Comodo dragon have 5 extensions pre installed , im using 3 of them myself

Yeah, but:

Im using comodo internet security and chrome > coinhive.com doesnt get blocked
Im using comodo internet security + comodo dragon > coinhive wont even connect

Why?
