Battle Comparison between "free" Endpoint security.

What are your thoughts about free endpoint /endpoint garde products .

Since when is SEP and any Enterprise Endpoint Protection suite free?
Give me a break..

It would be very interesting to see what the legal team of Symantec / Broadcom have to say about Comss.ru if they find out that they are distributing their software as a giveaway.

The problem is this: site is a trusted one. Or them lie about unmanaged unlimited trial (will be trial for 30-60 days) or them found a "legal" way to give a free trial forever. I would consider much the second option, maybe the companies dont care about customers cause their target are business clients, and use customers for increase the number of threats, FPS, etc they collect. Another thing is on comss.ru almost all others endpoint security are 30-60 days trial, just those 2 are unlimited, so i dont have a reason for dont trust comss.ru when write are unlimited.

I trust cmoss.ru till somebody provide evidence of fake license / modified packages.
So far SEP packages from cmoss .ru where Signed and untouched .

If you are all so sure about the 'free' status why don't you navigate to their official websites and share the download links with the rest of us?

You could have get it from My Symantec /direct links from Symantec
Untill Broadcom disabled trial license and direct links .

@Vitali Ortzi you can trust comss.ru all you want but you do not understand the problem here.

Under what licence / account did comss.ru download the installation files?
Do they have permission from Symantec / Broadcom to distribute the installation files on their website?
It might be a free download but it is not a free use. What they have done is a very grey area and a possible legal / licensing issue.

Softpedia shares the link in the proper way. They specifically mention that you need to buy the software of login to your Symantec account to download. And that it is a TRIAL.

I am not understanding why ppl dont report to mcafee or symantec this situations, if there is something illegal them can take actions. Those companies can just change the trial methods (if are true unlimited trial). Comms.ru dont look like a illegal site (crack,keygen,etc), and is a well known site, so i doubt AV companies dont know what happen there. Take in consideration comss.ru link is from mcafee and is an evaluation copy.
Update: the symantec link dont come from broadcom, but from comss.ru site.

Just because you can find the installation packages from shady sources and these two softwares do not ask for any licence as unmanaged, it does not mean the are 'free'.
They should not be advertised as free suites whatsoever.

This suites are not available for Home users in the first place, and yes, they pretty much providing (to not say stealing) the setups from entitled accounts.

Is why I don't even bother to discuss this, unless we talking Enterprise where it belonds.

The moment broadcom doesn't recognize comes.ru as an official partner, this offer is as grey as it can get.

Comss.ru is not a shady source, it is as legitimate source as other popular giveaway sities. I don't know what the eula says about the usage of un registered versions, I have not gone through eula, if it doesn't permit unregistered users then it's not a free to use software. But on the other hand if it doesn't explicitly prevents un registered usage then we can obviously call it as free to use software.

I think is different the situation of SEP and Mcafee. The SEP installation come from comss.ru site, mcafee come from product site. If we can talk honestly, some companies can find a pirate key (and pirate sites) in less then 24 hours. I doubt them didnt recognize comss.ru giving their trial products for years. The situation is certain a greyzone, but the easy method for fix is to change the trial time (30-60 days) how all companies are doing.

But it is 60 day trial After expiration reputation data won't work .
But as log as a client doesn't make use of SPEM reputation data is useless.
Everything including insight will still work After expiration date .

Is still a good solution for safe habit, consider as internet security "free" u can have only comodo, huorong, zone alarm.

The same way I can sell OEM keys on eBay, that giveaway is only up cause I'm not responsible for this community.

The trials for Endpoint Solutions cost around 30€, as for the license itself, they only sold in bulk through licensed partners and for companies.

You all pretty much in a gray area, and cmoss.ru for sure isn't a licensed partner, they not listed as such in any of the those products pages.
