I'm not sure how long it takes. This is my third time trying. I think I waited about an hour before trying it again

"this type of file is ntfs cannot because is locked
cannot lock current drive

chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process
would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)"
I type Y and then it says the volume will be checked the next time the system restarts. But nothing happens

I was told I didn't need to scan and then after I pressed scan the "automatically fix file system errors. Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" options didn't come up. The last box also didn't appear and after a restart nothing happened

Then I really don't know how to help you anymore. You can either re-format your computer or take your PC to repair shop so they can see what is the problem. It is really difficult for me to diagnose the problem from there.

I'll look into the things you've suggested. I really appreciate your efforts, I will look for help on other sites alongside doing what you suggested
