AV-Comparatives Consumer Summary Report 2025

Disclaimer
  1. This test shows how an antivirus behaves with certain threats, in a specific environment and under certain conditions.
We encourage you to compare these results with others and take informed decisions on what security products to use.
Before buying an antivirus you should consider factors such as price, ease of use, compatibility, and support. Installing a free trial version allows an antivirus to be tested in everyday use before purchase.

I have no video recording to show how to get.
I move pointer over the icon, get the normal green note; keep it for 2 seconds, you may get the black window.
Ran both Avast updates, restarted this is laptop, and even disabled the icon animation which I had on, just in case. Still no glitch on the notice after 3-5 seconds

Although I expressed interest earlier, I should echo the sentiment that disk writes during updates shouldn't necessarily be the deciding factor behind your choice of antivirus in most cases. Use whichever antivirus works best for you. I'm certainly not planning to be an alarmist about the issue, even if I do take other steps to reduce unnecessary wear on my drives.

The technology in consumer SSDs has long matured past the early stages of feeble drives with both remarkably limited cell endurance and less sophisticated flash memory management. It was already around 2017 that consumer SSDs came to commonly offer 300–600 TBW ratings or higher.

Most users won't come close to exhausting their drive's capacity within the warranty period.

Nvme drives that come in 1st grade business laptops are the best.

Doubled for two reasons; local currency devaluation policy (not new) and the increased demand for AI facilities (that is new).
I believe it had nothing to do with local currency devaluation as I purchased the 512 GB version over 10 times (for family and friends) and over the couse of months in the exact same price.

I believe it is 2nd reason that caused the change.

Devaluation raised by prices of everything starting from food approx 10 times; started since the first devaluation 2016.

I have a different problem with Eset new context menu. It takes about 3 secs to appear (new Win 11 context menu). Did not happen with BD.
I don't have a 3 second delay but slower than how it was without ESET. I also have Notepad++ and NanaZip there. I remember Kaspersky having a longer delay as well though not 3 seconds. The new context menu is a mess. Often it loads the old menu when I right click a file.
I'm using this app now. Old context menu + more with the design of new modern context menu. No delays. You may try this if you haven't before.

The new context menu appears instantly. I was talking about Eset entry which takes 3 secs to appear in the context menu

The above "Disclaimer" means:

1. The results apply only to the test environment.
2. The results apply only to the test system configuration(s) of both the OSes and security software tested.
3. The results apply only to the threats (e.g. the specific malware or other threats tested).
4. The results CANNOT be extrapolated beyond any of these "boundaries" or "specific limitations."

Yet, people will read and - very wrongly interpret - the "5 Stars and All Green Bars" and extrapolate that to protection that will keep them safe. The AV companies know this and exploit this people psychology and thinking failure. That is why AV companies pay huge amounts of money to have their software tested. It is marketing and propaganda. Combine that with people who have no understanding of the tests and that test result marketing generates revenue for the security software companies.
I think I understand your point. It seems reasonable unless you have the same system and configuration your results would not be the same as the tester.

But wouldn't it also be true, no matter what PC you have nor what configuration you used, could we look at these tests and come to the conclusion, that, let's say Kaspersky was all green, blue, or whatever, and had 10 gold stars, and 20 awards, and panda got 1 blue, 1 gold star, and 1 award, we could safely say our best bet for safety would be Kaspersky and not Panda ?

So, for that reason, the guide / tests would be useful?

At best one can make correlations, but despite AMSTO's and test lab best efforts, at the end of the day - or the moment of truth - what was true in the test might not be true on a real production system.

The real production system could have software installed on it or configured in such a way that any security software cannot protect it. So many variables and potentialities that generalizations and extrapolations of AV test lab results are entirely wrong.

So, on the street, or as my dad used to say. These tests "are a load of #####"... In other words, you can't rely on them!

It is as you say apples and oranges. Since no one can control each unit (PC) these software's are deployed upon, or the 3rd party installations either, then there is no way to guarantee protection

The only "guarantor" of protection is largely dependent upon the user - in the case of default allow operating systems.

It usually always happens when I place my cursor over the Cloudflare WARP icon, but for whatever reason, it's not happening this afternoon. I guess this glitchy behavior from Windows can be unpredictable.
I have found the trigger today; it only happens when preceded by clicking on "network/sound" button next to time and date.

Try switching between the Avast icon and other icons randomly and it will appear.
I tried, I really did, but I just can't get it to do it 😅 I moved the icon in the system tray, and randomly switched between icons, hovering over it/them for ~3 seconds, nope. I even set taskbar to centered compared to being aligned on the left, just in case. Animated the icon, and disabled it. I just couldn't get any of them to glitch out, thank goodness 😅 Windows 11 Pro 25H2 fully updated.
