Cryptowall Assistance

Currently we have found the infected computer and have removed it from the network. But our network shares are locked with cryptowall. And sadly the previous IT company never verified backups and our most current is from Dec 2013.

-Are there any ways to recover those files?

-If there arent any ways to recover, whats anybodies experience with actually paying the ransom? Does it work?
