I don't see how a university student who uses AI to write a paper for them actually learns anything, its getting worse and worse, it seems like the average university graduate now has like a grade 10 math skill level and couldn't pick out a country like Greece on a map. They know how to use AI and computers etc but seem to be getting dumber, of course there are exceptions.

It is like using the calculator without first learning how to calculate using your brain.
You will never suspect you clicked the wrong button of the calculator, if you cannot mentally calculate.

The students for using A.I. to fill gaps in knowledge and help with assignments or the education sector and teachers for not teaching students properly?

Students are using AI not fill gaps in knowledge, they use it to accomplish required tasks in a very short time; they save time for recreational activities, instead of throughly reading the unlimited sources available online.

The gaps are the end result of lack of interest to properly learn, not the cause of insufficient sources.

When I was writing my master thesis (1999-2001), I had travelled more than 6 hours to get photocopy of the required research articles from Cairo University library; currently, you have you need at your fingertips.
They just do not want to spend time to get the job completed properly.

It is not cheating, it is about not being able to make conclusion; you rely on a bot to read and make conclusions for you; you have not verified if such conclusions are correct or wrong (which can occure in a signficant percentage).

Never banned here, but when checking for plagiarism, it can be detected and thesis or research article get rejected.

Fortunately, to get the degree, the student has to pass the public discussion in addition to providing the text thesis; the same applies to research articles submitted for getting "professor" title.
