So basically they are setting teens settings/ restrictions for any people that doesnt verify their account with ID-card or photo selfie, and personally im not giving their any info and planning to use discord with teen restriction settings even im at my 30s. Sure its good that this update will increase safety of teenagers in discord. But discord overall is privacy nightmare and im not gonna give them any details if not needed. Sadly my friends use it for messaging with me and i have tried to get them to telegram but no success yet.

Any discord users here at MT? And what are your thoughts on this?

I never used before, my older son do, but I know the app is blocked in Egypt (bypassable by vpn).
Yeah many do use vpn to connect discord on blocked countries, Personally im too old for NSFW channels on discord and i have never even entered such channels, so restricted is fine for me. But in overall discord privacy is horrible, they scan your phone as example and ban you from discord that way, there isnt even ip bans because of this. Anyways

Would there be room for gamers app with more oriented privacy features instead of just this botnet discord? doubt that , but i would use it :)

Edit. I havent confirmed is above statements true, but that i have heard and read from different websites so take it as just personal opinion

Hi,
I don't use Discord.
NextDNS accounts have an Age Verification Bypass feature (beta).
You could check if it works.

I do use Discord because one of the software devs has support servers. I use it very sparingly, so age restrictions aren't going to be an issue; I plan to leave it without any verification.

If being bracketed in the right age was necessary for me, I may have felt reassured by the "on-device" age estimation verification method or the future inference-estimation engine. Of course, this may be an issue for people using it for purposes that may overlap with teen activities. Submitting any kind of document seems like a no-no; they have already proven not to be competent enough to keep their users' documents secure.

I have a Discord account because my nephew created it for me so we could play Roblox together and chat on Discord. He insisted so much on creating a Discord account that I ended up letting him create one for me. Then I just activated MFA/Passkey, talked to my nephew once, and never used it again after that. If it were up to me, I would delete my account, and I would never have created a Discord account in the first place.

I’m not a Discord user, so I observe the topic from the outside. The measure seems like an attempt to strengthen the safety of teenagers, while at the same time opening the debate about privacy.

In the end, it’s the same paradox: the higher we build the walls, the more doors we’re asked to open. And each person decides whether they prefer living in a fortress or in an open square. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 🏰 🌐
