Dllhost.exe Virus multiple running

Hello,

I am new to this forum and found it while researching a probable infection on one of my computers. It is the same as several others that are experiencing dllhost.exe issues where multiple processes are running.

Can I get some guidance or assistance with cleaning this machine, or is it likely faster to reload windows on it?

Thank you any assistance.

I have attached the two files from the Farbar scan as I see others have done.

Thank you for any assistance.

Greg

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

THE,

I just rebooted the machine after getting your last response. Upon reboot, there were no dllhost.exe processes running. After opening one of our work programs (called ADP Drive which is used in car dealerships) I do see one dllhost.exe process start. It is claiming 1472k of memory. Is this ok, or normal? Does it sound like it is cleaned?

Can you confirm that it had a virus or malware, and if so, what was it? One scan I ran said there was Troj/PeeacMem-A..and although the scan said it cleaned it from memory, it was still there.

Was it merely the Combofix utility that fixed it? Am I allowed to ask such questions? What kind of magic is this? :)

If you don't mind, I would like as much information regarding the "fix" as you can or want to share.

Thank you and Regards.

THE,

Seems I spoke a bit too soon. I am running a trial version of Malwarebytes which is actively protecting the machine. I am now seeing alerts from malwarebytes that it is blocking outbound traffic to various IP addresses and various domain names ie (searchnet.blinkxcore.com) I also now have 3 dllhost.exe processes running.

Care to have me try something else?

Thank you.

Yes, you were infected with Poweliks virus. ComboFix just removed bad line from the registry and that is all.

Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).

  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

THE,

I downloaded the fixlist.txt and copied it to the desktop where the FRST.exe resides. I did as you instructed, running the FRST.exe as administrator and I clicked on Fix. It did the fix and put the fixlog.txt on the desktop...but immediately then prompted for a restart. When the login CTRL ALT DELETE came up...I hit them and there is a 1 minute delay until the username and password promt comes up. I actually timed it. I did a reboot and the same thing is still happening. If I don't login right away, and the screen goes back to the CTRL ALT DELETE and press them...it is a 1 minute delay again.

I have not received any indication from Malwarebytes of dllhost.exe attemptiong outbound traffic. I opened a few apps and got on the Internet. Retrieved email...all seems fine in the first 5 minutes.

The only thing not right at this point in the login delay I mentioned. Attached is the fixlog.txt

THE, Attached please find the fixlog.txt. It ran quickly. Upon reboot, the delay after the CTRL ALT DELETE is gone. No signs of the virus at this point either. Let me know what you think..or see from the log results.
