Back in 2017, Adobe announced that it will be killing Flash player by the end of 2020. In keeping with this plan, Microsoft today mentioned again that it is ending support for Adobe Flash Player on Microsoft Edge (both the new Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Edge Legacy) and Internet Explorer 11 at the end of 2020.

After the end of support, you will no longer receive Security Update for Adobe Flash Player” from Microsoft that applies to Microsoft Edge Legacy and Internet Explorer 11. Also, after January 2021, Microsoft will disable Adobe Flash Player by default and all versions older than KB4561600 released in June 2020 will be blocked.

You can read in detail about Microsoft’s plan for Adobe Flash end of support from the source link below.

From Windows Latest a more clear timeline:
Here’s the timeline of the upcoming changes to Adobe Flash Player:
  • By the end of 2020, Microsoft will end support for Flash Player on Edge (both the new and old versions) and Internet Explorer 11.
  • Flash Player will be removed from the Chromium Edge by January 2021.
  • In the fall of 2020, Microsoft will publish “Update for removal of Adobe Flash Player” for those who want it.
  • In 2021, Microsoft will begin rolling out the optional update to remove the Flash Player from the OS.
  • By the summer of 2021, Microsoft says it will remove all the APIs, group policies and user interfaces from Edge (legacy) and IE 11 for the Flash Player.

For older business software and mom and pop stores use it I suppose. And some business can not afford to upgrade to 10 perhaps?
Yes, I know. There is nothing wrong with IE in Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. So anyone having software in WIndows 7 or 8.1 is covered. But you know, even in those OS, there are web pages that won't load, because the browser is too old.
Since all the companies should have adopted by now Windows 10, why should Microsoft continue maintaining this dinosaur. Couldn't they make Edge compatible with IE ?
It seems really funny to me, when some modern software after installation asks me, if I want to make IE my default browser :).
But you never know, maybe after Edge Chromium, Microsoft is planning a surprise for us in the year 2021....IE Chromium 12 ? Now that would really shake the world of browsers.:)

It already exist a IE compatibility mode which is designed for companies. Enduser should avoid using it, like old Edge and IE.

IE and old Edge are dead and lack many security features. With 20H2 the next step moving to Chromium-Edge is finished.

Microsoft reveals final plan to remove Flash Player in Windows 10:
In a quiet update to their end of support for Adobe Flash blog post, Microsoft has outlined their further plans on how they will begin distributing the Windows 10 KB4577586 update.

Starting in June 2021, Microsoft will include it in their optional Windows 10 preview cumulative updates for Windows 10 1809 and later. These updates are released in the third and fourth weeks of the month as part of their scheduled "C" releases.

Microsoft will then include the update in the mandatory July 2021 Patch Tuesday cumulative updates for Windows 10 1507 and later, Windows Server 2012, and Windows 8.1.
  • Starting in June 2021, the KB4577586 “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player” will be included in the Preview Update for Windows 10, version 1809 and above platforms. It will also be included in every subsequent Latest Cumulative Update.
  • As of July 2021, the KB4577586 “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player” will be included in the Latest Cumulative Update for Windows 10, version 1607, and Windows 10, version 1507. The KB will also be included in the Monthly Rollup, and the Security Only Update for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Embedded 8 Standard.
For those who install Windows 21H1, which will begin public preview this month, the KB4577586 update will automatically be installed and the Adobe Flash Player plugin will be removed.

With Windows 10 currently running on 1.3 billion devices, after the July 2021 updates, a massive number of devices will be clean from Adobe Flash Player.
