It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

Eset on default settings can't stop some malware.
HIPS should be changed to Interactive or Policy based mode.
But even on default settings it did pretty good.
p.s: 50 MB of RAM usage isn't much, i don't agree with MG on that.

It's quite strong in "Smart mode" as well without any pre-defined rules, so that only "very suspicious" system events trigger a notification, such as changes in system registry, active processes and programs. "Interactive" eventually pisses off some people (there are few in MT as well), because even if it was run properly in "Training" for at least some weeks, it still throws up tons of alerts related to system processes and such, so computer usage is not so "friendly" as it was before with "Automatic" or "Smart" mode. I don't really like ESET in default settings, but with some settings tweaked it's quite powerfull indeed.

1) Light in memory which is good for PC having low RAM
2) It has many good features for the firewall and network protection like arp protection
3) Low FPs
4) Best in protection against deceptors
However, if you check the last 3 years of the lab tests it never be able to be consistently in the top 3 spots. BitDefender and Kaspersky are always in the top 2 spots. Wonder what's happening to ESET?

yes i find it curious too with eset...used it for 2 years. light and strong signatures. But the hips is not user-friendly, difficult in trainings modus.
the lab tests and the score from malware hubs say one thing: eset should improve the av.

BitDefender and Kaspersky had operational BB but ESET had non operational HIPS how is this fare test.
Because that's ESET's default settings and the test was performed with default settings, just like the Bitdefender/Kaspersky test.

ESET can be paired with VoodooShield if you dont want to use HIPS.

@davisd you are right about Smart mode i forgot to mention it.
Interactive is good when you have safe browsing habits because then the alerts will be minimal.

plus memory protection and sys-inspector which I found it very useful wtf this tool can find everything.

There's no such thing as unfair lab tests.
ESET knew they are going for lab tests and it's not the first time too. If the tests are unfair then they should have withdrawn or informed the labs to adjust the ESET's settings as such.

If you use the HIPS in the paranoid or policy based mode you are well protected.
they provided HIPS for a reason, There is an option in HIPS that you need to enable it.
So it has self-protection?
I think Even if the GUI didn't start the system is still safe because the ESET service is running.

Yes,if you set it in SMART MODE then no worry it only popup when some suspicious activity occur.
SMART MODE is for beginner.

@Brie yes HIPS is a bit difficult for a beginner but you can still learn how it's working.
You can set in Interactive Mode for a while and then launch some safe programs CCleaner for example.
HIPS will give an alert and there you can read what is trying to run to your system.
You will see what is this program and what is trying to access in you system
By doing that you can learn slowly how HIPS works.
After creating a rule for safe programs,HIPS will give you an alert for unknown programs that are trying to run in your system without your approval.
In the alert window you will something that you don't know and you click Deny to avoid damage.
You can search online the program to see if it's safe or not. If it's safe you can go to HIPS rules and allow it.
As you understand by now i like HIPS because is a good tool to learn a few more things about security
